Colorado Springs, Colo. – Republic FC bested Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 2-0 Saturday night, coming away from its trip to the Rockies with all three points. The result keeps the Indomitable Club atop the Western Conference standings on 11 points and unbeaten through five matches to open the 2024 season.
Republic FC got off to a fast start, finding the net in the 5th minute to take an early 1-0 advantage. Trevor Amann punched in the opening score from the penalty mark after Sacramento advanced up the right flank. After receiving the pass from Russell Cicerone, Amann did well to shake off his opponent and create enough space to put his shot on frame.
The club doubled its lead 20 minutes later. Cicerone put his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season, adding a goal to his 5th-minute assist with a right-footed strike from inside the penalty box. The Michigan native finished the match with a game-high three shots and three chances created.
Sacramento put in another strong shift on the defensive end, holding the hosts without a shot on target until the 77th minute of the match. Danny Vitiello finished the night with three saves – including a late all-out diving effort to preserve the club’s shutout in stoppage time.
Next week, Republic FC returns home to host FC Tulsa at Heart Health Park. Tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/tickets, and the match will be broadcast live on FOX40, FOX40.com, and the FOX40 News mobile app, and streaming on ESPN+.
