Sacramento, Calif. – Republic FC secured a point in a 1-1 draw with FC Tulsa Saturday on a wet and cold night at Heart Health Park. The result maintains the club’s unbeaten start to the 2024 season, and keeps the Quails in a tie atop the Western Conference table.
Sacramento pulled ahead in the first half before the visitors leveled the match in the second half. Republic FC pressured its opponent all evening long with 25 shots and dominated on the ball to the tune of 73% possession.
Republic FC was active early on, tallying eight shots in the first half with three on target. After scoring in Week 5, Trevor Amann got his head on a cross from the right in the 11th minute, but the ball went just high of the crossbar.
FC Tulsa was reduced to ten men in the 16th minute. Edwin Laszo was shown red and sent off after a dangerous tackle on Jared Timmer.
Sacramento was aggressive after the visitors went down a man. Conor Donovan – making his 200th career USL Championship appearance – nearly headed in a Rodrigo Lopez corner kick in the 22nd minute, but his attempt was saved by the keeper. Sacramento’s captain got his club on the board ten minutes later with his first score of the season on an assist from Luis Felipe.
FC Tulsa leveled the match in the 64th minute when Patrick Seagrist sent through a shot on a recycled set piece opportunity.
Sacramento continued to push after the visitors equalized, pinning Tulsa back in its own defensive half. Republic FC’s backline kept the Oklahoma side from threatening as time ticked down, with just a single save required by goalkeeper Danny Vitiello.
Republic FC is back on the road next week, taking on Orange County SC from Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT and the match be broadcast live in English and Spanish on FOX40, Antenna TV 40.2, and streaming on FOX40.com and through the FOX40 News mobile app.
