Sacramento, Calif., – Today, USL Championship announced that Republic FC captain Rodrigo Lopez has been named to the Week 6 Team of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw vs. FC Tulsa at Heart Health Park. Lopez scored the opening goal of the match in the 33rd minute with a left-footed strike off an assist from Luis Felipe.
Lopez helped his club pressure the Oklahoma side throughout the contest. He finished the match with five shots and two chances created while completing 84% of his passes. His opening score in the 33rd minute came from an assist by midfielder Luis Felipe. After receiving the ball at the top of the visitor’s penalty area, he let loose a strong shot that beat the goalkeeper and found the back of the net for his first score of the season. On the defensive end, he was successful in 9 of 14 one-on-one duels as Sacramento held their foes to just two attempts on target.
This is Lopez’s second selection to the USL Championship Team of the Week this season. He was previously named to the league’s top squad in Week 4 after creating the chance leading to a late game-winner by Jonathan Ricketts in Sacramento’s March 30 victory over Memphis 901 FC. The selection is the 16th of his career.
