Sacramento, Calif., – Today, USL Championship announced that Republic FC midfielder Rodrigo Lopez has been nominated for Week 9 Goal of the Week. The fan vote is open now through 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9 at USLChampionship.com.
After Trevor Amann was brought down just outside the box, Lopez stepped up to the spot and sent a right-footed shot around the Phoenix wall and out of reach from the goalkeeper. The score was Lopez’s second of the campaign and the ninth first-half goal for Republic FC this season. The captain also reached a personal milestone in the match, reaching 10,000 minutes played for Republic FC, just the third player in club history to do so.
Lopez is the third Republic FC player nominated for the weekly scoring honor this season, joining Trevor Amann and Russell Cicerone who were up for the vote in Weeks 1 and 5, respectively. The Indomitable Club has also earned eight selections to Team of the Week, including two for Lopez.
Through nine weeks of league play, Sacramento continues to hold the top spot in the Western Conference and is just one of two teams in the league to remain undefeated, matching the club’s all-time record for consecutive matches without a loss to open a season.
