Today, U.S. Soccer announced the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 schedule, including Republic FC’s match against MLS side San Jose Earthquakes. The two clubs will face off at Heart Health Park on Tuesday, May 21 with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
Tickets start at just $16 and are on sale now at SacRepublicFC.com/Tickets. The match is expected to sell out as Republic FC supporters and Sacramentans continue to show up for the Indomitable Club year after year. Season ticket members have already received communication and are receiving priority access to claim their tickets for the match before all inventory is released to the general public.
Republic FC advanced to the Round of 16 with a 2-0 win over regional rival Monterey Bay F.C. on Tuesday night. Sacramento took the lead early when defender Damia Viader’s shot found the back of the net. Striker Kieran Phillips and Sacramento-native Rafael Jauregui teamed up four minutes later to double the Indomitable Club’s lead. Jauregui tallied his first career assist and fellow Academy graduate and Sacramento-native Chibi Ukaegbu made his professional debut with his first starting selection. The result keeps Sacramento’s perfect Open Cup record against fellow USL Championship teams intact with seven wins and no losses in its nine-year tournament history.
Earlier in the evening, San Jose Earthquakes locked in their Round of 16 appearance with a 1-0 win over USL Championship side Oakland Roots SC. Second-half substitute Ousseni Bouda scored the only goal of the contest in the 76th minute.
The May 21 match will be the fifth Open Cup match between Sacramento and San Jose and the fourth time Republic FC has reached the Round of 16. The two clubs last met in the 2022 Open Cup Round of 16, with Republic FC taking a 2-0 win in front of a sold-out crowd at Heart Health Park. The victory was the Indomitable Club’s first in a stretch of three consecutive victories over MLS sides to become the first lower-division side to reach the final in 14 years.
The match will be streamed live on USOpenCup.com and USLSoccer.com, providing unparalleled access to the tournament for soccer fans across the country.
