Today, USL Championship announced that Republic FC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello has been nominated for Week 17 Save of the Week. The fan vote is open now through 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5 at USLChampionship.com.
With time ticking down, Vitiello preserved his team’s one-goal lead and kept the clean sheet intact with a snap save in the 94th minute. As Hartford put numbers in the box to find the equalizer, the ball fell to Mamadou Dieng on the edge of the six-yard box. The striker put his shot on frame, but a snap save from Vitiello denied the opportunity at the goal line before Hartford’s second attempt sailed over the crossbar.
Vitiello’s dominant performance drew deafening chants of “Danny” around Heart Health Park and an outpouring of praise on social media. The shutout was his 40th career regular season clean sheet.
This is Vitiello’s seventh Save of the Week nomination of the 2024 season and fifth for the month of June. He has won the weekly fan vote five times so far, including three consecutive weeks in Weeks 12 through 14.
