Sacramento, Calif. – Earlier today, the USL Championship announced the Week 30 Team of the Week. Following Republic FC’s win over New Mexico United on Saturday night, Memo Rodriguez was selected as the Player of the Week, while Neill Collins was named Coach of the Week.
On the road and opening up a stretch of three games in eight days, Memo Rodriguez led the squad with two goals and one assist – his first brace since 2023. The first-year Quail got his team on the board early as he converted a penalty in the 12th minute. Then just minutes into the second half, he doubled the lead when he headed in a cross from Jack Gurr.
Memo capped off his night with an assist on what would prove to be the game winner. After a tackle by Republic FC’s backline, the ball fell to the midfielder, who picked his head up to send a long ball to an in-stride Kyle Edwards. Edwards confidently carried the ball forward and put it into the back of the net, setting a new league record for career goals off the bench. This is Memo’s fourth Team of the Week selection this season, and second Player of the Week selection in his career.
Over the past two months, Neill Collins’ squad has done well to put them in a position to make a push for the top of the table in the final stretch of the season. Republic FC is undefeated in its last eight games and with the win on Saturday against the current second place team in the Western Conference, Republic FC has climbed to fourth in the table. The Indomitable Club is now just seven points back from first with a game in hand on two of the teams sitting above it.
Republic FC will host Las Vegas Lights FC on Wednesday night. The match kicks off from Heart Health Park at 7:00 p.m. and features a $5 craft beer special until the 30th minute. Tickets are available now at SacRepublicFC.com.
