The Indomitable Club lives up to its name and records its second win in five days with a 3-2 win over Las Vegas Lights FC. Republic FC came back from a one-goal deficit twice before Kyle Edwards put away the game-winning goal for the second straight match. Building on his Player of the Week performance over the weekend, Memo Rodriguez added a goal and an assist to his season tally, while Tyler Wolff put his name back on the scoresheet.
Undefeated in its last nine matches, Republic FC is now tied on points for second place in the Western Conference table and just four points back from first.
The visitors got on the board first as Christian Pinzon found a lane to deliver a pass to Oalex Anderson, who slotted a shot to the upper corner in the 13th minute.
It would take 36 minutes for Republic FC to record its first shot on target, but the Indomitable Club was sure to make it count. Playing out of the back, eight Quails got a touch on the ball before Danny Crisostomo laid the ball off to Memo Rodriguez. Fresh off his brace over the weekend, the reigning Player of the Week sent in a rocket of a shot from 30 yards that completely froze Las Vegas goalkeeper Triston Henry.
Vegas regained the lead shortly into the second half. Christian Pinzon put the ball forward to Carson Locker who carried it into traffic and got a shot off from inside the box.
The Indomitable Club answered right back in the 58th minute. After Cal Jennings was brought down in the box, Memo Rodriguez stepped up to take the penalty. The attempt was blocked by the keeper, but only went as far as Tyler Wolff, who had a quick reaction to slot a one-touch shot to the back post.
Danny Vitiello got his first save of the night in the 62nd minute. Las Vegas’ Oalex Anderson had the ball out wide and delivered a ball to Johnny Rodriguez inside the 18-yard box. Rodriguez put a one-touch shot on target, but a quick-acting Vitiello got a hand up to push the ball away.
Memo Rodriguez put another attempt on the goal in the 72nd minute. Alfredo Midence split two defenders with a pass to Pep Casas, who continued to move the ball up the pitch before getting the ball to Memo. Memo escaped a tackle before firing off a low shot that forced the keeper to make a save.
But Sacramento wouldn’t be denied long. For the second straight match, Memo Rodriguez connected with Kyle Edwards for Republic FC’s game winner. Memo sent in a long corner that reached an unmarked Edwards on the back post, and the league’s all-time substitute scoring leader easily put the ball away in the 82nd minute.
In the 86th minute, fan-favorite winger Michel Benitez made his return to the pitch after missing the last few months due to a lower body injury.
With eight minutes of stoppage time, the match was nowhere near finished as the 90 minute mark passed. But as Las Vegas put numbers forward to steal a late equalizer, Danny Vitiello stood strong with two saves in the final minutes of the match to secure the three points.
The Indomitable Club will return home for its annual Noche Latina match on October 10.
