On Thursday, USL Championship announced that Republic FC midfielder Memo Rodriguez has been nominated for USL Championship Player of the Month for October. Voting is open now through Sunday, November 1 at 9:00 p.m. PT at USLChampionship.com. A fan vote comprises 51% of the poll, and the remainder will be conducted by the USL Technical Committee and National Media Panel.
Memo closed out the regular season campaign with two goals, two assists, and a +1.30 Goals Added mark in October. Just days after leading the club to a come from behind win over Las Vegas Lights in its last September match, he netted a late equalizer with a direct free kick in Tulsa.
The 30-year-old veteran went on to add three more goal contributions in Sacramento’s back-to-back wins against then-top seeded El Paso Locomotive (October 17) and Oakland Roots SC (October 24). The run of form extended Republic FC’s undefeated streak to 13 games – a new club record – and lifted the team to secure the Western Conference’s #2 seed heading into the postseason.
In his first season with Republic FC, Rodriguez has recorded seven goals and a team-best nine assists, with all but one of his goal contributions coming in the second half of the season. He led the team with six Team of the Week selections and was named the Week 30 Player of the Week following a two goal, one assist performance against top-seeded New Mexico United on September 26.
With the second seed in the West for the second consecutive year, Republic FC will host FC Tulsa for the opening round of the playoffs this Sunday, November 1. Kickoff from Heart Health Park is slated for 6:00 p.m. and tickets are available now at SacRepublicFC.com.
