The 18-year-old academy product danced around his defender and with the final kick of last Wednesday afternoon’s game in Portland, he delivered a dramatic game-winning goal – the first of his Republic FC career during USL Championship play.
The game-winner was the first of his career with the first team after netting 37 career goals in 93 academy appearances since 2016.
JuJu entered the match in the 82nd minute for Sam Werner and made his unforgettable impact deep into injury time when defender Matt Mahoney picked out Chavez on the far flank. The Sacramento native weaved between two defenders and whipped in a left-footed shot that snuck its way just inside the near post to beat the T2 goalkeeper.
Chavez is the Indomitable Club’s second nomination for Goal of the Week during the 2020 campaign after Dariusz Formella’s performance in Week 4 saw the striker bag a brace against Tacoma Defiance.
Republic FC host in-state rival Orange County SC this Wednesday night at Papa Murphy’s Park. The match will be broadcast locally on KQCA My58 and Estrella TV Sacramento, as well as streamed on ESPN+ with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. PT.
