Swope Park Rangers came out quickly, jumping on the score sheet in just the 4th minute. After a turnover in the midfield the Rangers forward Hassan Saad received a pass from midfielder Christian Duke. Saad rolled over the ball with his right foot to get past the initial defender before blasting a right-footed shot from just outside the box that went past Evan Newton for the opening goal.

Republic FC answered in the 36th minute after Trevin Caesar earned a free kick from 20 yards out. Emrah Klimenta took the free kick, sending the ball up and over the wall before it struck the crossbar and bounced straight down on the goal line. Wilson Kneeshaw followed the rebound perfectly and smashed home the equalizer into the open net, making it 1-1 which it would stay until halftime.

Sacramento Republic FC jumped out to an early lead in the 15th minute. Defender James Kiffe received the ball wide on the left wing before sending a looping cross into the box. Midfielder Hayden Partain made a near-post run and sent a glancing header past Reno 1868 FC keeper Matt Bersano and into the back of the net. The goal marked Partain’s first as a professional and put Republic FC ahead 1-0.

Reno would respond quickly however, with a strike from the USL’s leading goal scorer Dane Kelly.  The forward found space in the center of the box and defender Nick Von Niederhäusern found him with a cross. Kelly elevated and sent a powerful header past a diving Republic FC keeper Evan Newton for the emphatic equalizer.

After Kiffe barely chased down and cleared a would-be goal off the line, Reno would use the shift in momentum to jump ahead in the 22nd minute. Defender Elliott Hord was shown a yellow card for a tackle just outside of the box and Reno capitalized. Midfielder Chris Wehan curled his free-kick up and over the six-man wall as it dipped under the bottom of the crossbar and past a Newton to put Reno ahead 2-1.

The match continued back and forth throughout the rest of the half.  Newton and Reno keeper Matt Bersano were both called to action to make saves in 1-one-1 situations in the first half. Newton was forced to make a save when Kelly was able to beat the defense and get a clear path to goal. Kelly rifled a shot from 20 yards out and Newton leapt in the air, blocking the shot with a strong two-handed parry. Bersano made a crucial save on a breakaway chance for Trevin Caesar. The speedy Republic FC forward picked off a pass and took off for goal before attempting to chip the keeper. Bersano went to ground and blocked the attempt away with one hand only to have Wilson Kneeshaw follow the rebound and send a strike on goal. Bersano recovered in time to make the follow up save and maintain the 2-1 lead for Reno going into halftime.

Republic FC and T2 went back and forth early in the match, but Republic FC would strike first in the 14th minute.  Following a restart near midfield, James Kiffe sent a long ball to the top of the box where Matt Wiesenfarth stood.  The forward, making his first appearance for Republic FC, nodded the ball into the air, before bringing the ball down and with his second touch finding Wilson Kneeshaw, who touched the ball past the defense.  Kneeshaw, now in a one-on-one situation with T2 keeper Kendall McIntosh, struck a right-footed shot across the face of goal and into the bottom left corner of the goal giving Republic FC the early 1-0 lead.

T2 seemed to be energized by the goal and maintained a strong control on the possession for most of the first half.  Despite the possession, the Republic FC defense held strong, with the best look of the half for T2 coming on a 26th minute free kick. Midfielder Jack Barmby stepped up to take a free kick, sending a curling left-footed shot over the wall and toward the bottom left corner of the goal.  Republic FC keeper Evan Newton was in good position however, and was there quickly to make the save keeping the match 1-0, which would hold until halftime.

Sacramento Republic FC quickly established their domination of possession, which would persist for most of the match. Trevin Caesar and Wilson Kneeshaw linked up in the 6th minute with Caesar setting up Kneeshaw for a shot in the box. Kneeshaw’s one timed shot went a just wide of the near post and out play. Agustin Cazarez had a shot sail just high of the crossbar in the 17th minute after good build up play gave him the opportunity.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 had their chances in the first half to claim an early lead, but they could not find the finishing touch. Thomas Sanner missed a golden opportunity to go ahead in the 23rd minute when he could not put his header on target inside the six-yard box. WFC2 had another solid chance to grab the first goal of the match in the 34th minute. Elliott Hord’s clearing header did not get out of the box and found the feet of Marco Bustos. The midfielder navigated his way through three Republic FC defenders before trying to get a shot on goal. Bustos lost his balance and went to ground in hopes of a foul being called, but none would come, leaving the match scoreless going into the half.

Sacramento Republic FC quickly established their domination of possession, which would persist for most of the match. Trevin Caesar and Wilson Kneeshaw linked up in the 6th minute with Caesar setting up Kneeshaw for a shot in the box. Kneeshaw’s one timed shot went a just wide of the near post and out play. Agustin Cazarez had a shot sail just high of the crossbar in the 17th minute after good build up play gave him the opportunity.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 had their chances in the first half to claim an early lead, but they could not find the finishing touch. Thomas Sanner missed a golden opportunity to go ahead in the 23rd minute when he could not put his header on target inside the six-yard box. WFC2 had another solid chance to grab the first goal of the match in the 34th minute. Elliott Hord’s clearing header did not get out of the box and found the feet of Marco Bustos. CF Pachuca opened the scoring for the international friendly in the 21st minute with a perfectly executed set piece. Forward Antonio Figueroa set up a free kick from the left wing as Los Tuzos manned the box. Figueroa sent a long, looping left-footed cross to the far post where midfielder Victor Guzmán was unmarked. Guzmán capitalized on his chance with a powerful right-footed volley that sailed past Republic FC keeper Evan Newton and into the net for the early 1-0 lead.

Newton was tested again in the 30th minute by a shot from Germán Cano. The midfielder received a pass inside the box and was able to shield his defender and turn towards goal. Cano sent a hard left-footed strike on goal but Newton was in perfect position to parry the shot away.

Los Tuzos would double up their lead just before halftime as Cano and Ángelo Sagal linked up for a goal in the 40th minute. Sagal carried the ball up the right wing before sliding a through ball in between three Republic FC defenders. Cano streaked through the defense and controlled the through ball before poking a shot past Newton and beating him far post for the 2-0 lead.

Hategan was 16 years, 81 days old, breaking the previous record of 17 years, 149 days old set by Gabe Gissie who made his debut against Arizona United SC (now Phoenix Rising FC) on Apr. 19, 2014. Hategan started and played 45 minutes in the match, committing three fouls.

“I think Pachuca was excellent and our boys gave it a real go,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “You can’t give a team like Pachuca a foothold in the game and we did that, but two goals against first half and one in the second, I can’t be too disappointed.  We could have done better around the 18-yard box and we could have been more clinical, but I don’t want to be too critical because of who we were up against.”

Sacramento Republic FC opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Both sides were locked in a back and forth battle before Emrah Klimenta and Danny Barrera linked up for the first goal. Klimenta surged out of the back line with the ball at his feet before finding Barrera in the attacking third. Klimenta continued his run and Barrera slid a through ball in front of Klimenta and gave him enough time and space to get a shot off. San Antonio FC answered shortly after in the 31st minute. Forward AJ Ajeakwa ran onto a through ball from Kris Tyrpak as he found space behind Republic FC’s defense. Ajeakwa seemed to be losing his balance and looked to be going to ground but the forward steadied himself just enough to flick a right-footed shot past Republic FC keeper Evan Newton and into the corner of the net to equalize for San Antonio FC.

Klimenta had a great chance to double up in the 34th minute when he found himself on the end of a Barrera corner kick. Klimenta’s initial shot was blocked, but he secured the rebound and sent a second shot on goal that forced Johnston to block it away. Klimenta was in position to snatch a second rebound and send a third shot on goal, only to have Johnston make another save to start the counterattack. The score would remain 1-1 going into halftime.

Sacramento Republic FC opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Both sides were locked in a back and forth battle before Emrah Klimenta and Danny Barrera linked up for the first goal. Klimenta surged out of the back line with the ball at his feet before finding Barrera in the attacking third. Klimenta continued his run and Barrera slid a through ball in front of Klimenta and gave him enough time and space to get a shot off. Klimenta struck his right-foot through the ball as he sent his one-timed effort past San Antonio FC keeper Lee Johnston and into the net for the 1-0 lead for Republic FC.

Trickett-Smith found redemption in the 87th minute with a perfect corner kick that found the head of Gissie. The midfielder headed the ball back across the face of goal to Jeremy Hall, who then sent his header right back to the center for Kneeshaw. Kneeshaw could not wrap his foot around the ball as his one-timed shot sailed just over the net and out of play, ending the in a 1-1 draw.

“I enjoyed watching us play tonight,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “I think tactically it worked. It was a wonderful goal for Emrah. I was very pleased with the work rate and the effort.“

Republic FC began the game on the front foot, using pace and quick movements to open up space and pressure the LA Galaxy’s backline.  Republic FC’s early pressure almost paid off in the 11th minute on a corner kick.  Midfielder Danny Barrera took the corner, finding an unmarked Agustin Cazarez near the top left corner of the box.  Cazarez chested the ball down before firing a left-footed shot on goal, but his shot went just over the bar.

The Galaxy had their best chance of the first half in the 13th minute.  Midfielder Raul Mendiola was able to get past his mark on the right side before sending a ball into the middle.  Mendiola’s cross found forward Jack McInerney right in front of goal, but his show was blocked, but only as far as Ariel Lassiter who was following the play.  The young midfielder was able to strike a second shot toward goal, but his shot rolled just wide right of the goal.

Republic FC had a pair of strong opportunities in the 27th and 41st minutes.  In the 17th minute, forward Wilson Kneeshaw fought hard in the right corner to find an opening before escaping pressure and sending a ball into the middle.  Barrera was able to redirect the cross with an acrobatic pass back to Trevin Caesar in the middle of the box.  The forward attempted to one-time the ball on goal, but his shot went just over the bar.  It was Caesar again in the 41st minute, this time he was played into a one-on-one situation after a hustle play by defender Elliott Hord.  Caesar struck the ball well and it looked destined for the bottom right corner of the goal, but the ball was deflected out of play keeping the match scoreless going into the half.

The Galaxy would waste no time adding to their lead, scoring again in the 49th minute.  After a giveaway in Republic FC’s attacking half, midfielder Bradford Jamieson recovered the ball and drove it from nearly midfield to the box.  Jamieson then stepped over the ball a few times before sending a right-footed strike on goal, that deflected off the sliding foot of a Republic FC defender, taking an awkward bounce and trickling into the back of the goal to put Galaxy up 2-0.

Republic FC would fight back valiantly, coming up just short on a few different chances.  In the 64th minute, a long ball from Cazarez went untouched as it floated through the middle of the field, until midfielder Tyler Blackwood was able to run onto the ball on the left side.  Blackwood took the ball to the far left side of the box before cutting it back and centering the ball to Caesar who had found space in the middle of the box.  Caesar shot went just over the bar, however, preserving the 2-0 lead.

I felt we had the best chances in the match and we failed to work the goalkeeper, which is unlike us of late.  I am massively proud of how we did in the Cup, and we should take a lot of pride in that.”

Despite the pressure from Republic FC, the USL side was unable to break through, ending the match and Republic FC’s U.S. Open Cup run. Sacramento Republic FC picked up right where they left off coming out strong against LA Galaxy II.  In just the 10th minute, Republic FC would earn their first chance in the form of a penalty.  Defender James Kiffe drove past his mark before taking the ball all the way down the left side to the touchline and sending a left-footed cross toward the middle.  Kiffe’s cross did not find a Republic FC player, but instead found the hand of a Los Dos defender, earning Republic FC an early penalty.  Midfielder Jeremy Hall stepped up to take the penalty, hitting a low driven shot toward the right side of the goal.  Los Dos keeper Eric López guessed right and was able to get his hand on the ball, but Hall hit the shot too hard, powering the ball past López and into the net, putting Republic FC ahead 1-0 early.

Republic FC looked as though they might put the game away in the 89th minute after substitute forward Gabe Gissie shook off a defender to put himself in a one-on-one situation with López.  Gissie unleashed a rocket shot that beat the keeper, but defender Jean Engola had recovered to cover the back post and was able to slide and deflect the ball away.

Republic FC would finish out the match and move into sole possession of third place in the USL standings.  Republic FC will remain in Southern California as they take on LA Galaxy (MLS) in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wed. Jun. 28.  Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at the StubHub Center Track Stadium.

In the 70th minute, Jonathan Hernandez found space on the right side near the center circle before sending a long ball forward ahead of the defense.  Hord was unable to clear the ball away and substitute forward Adrián Vera ran onto the ball into the box, flicking it up and over Newton and into the goal making the score 3-2.

Republic FC looked as though they might put the game away in the 89th minute after substitute forward Gabe Gissie shook off a defender to put himself in a one-on-one situation with López.  Gissie unleashed a rocket shot that beat the keeper, but defender Jean Engola had recovered to cover the back post and was able to slide and deflect the ball away.

Republic FC would finish out the match and move into sole possession of third place in the USL standings.  Republic FC will remain in Southern California as they take on LA Galaxy (MLS) in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wed. Jun. 28.  Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at the StubHub Center Track Stadium.

Although Republic FC had the upper hand for most of the match, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros nearly grabbed an early lead in the 2nd minute off of a set piece. Defender Robert Sagel trudged up field and found himself with an open header on the cross, but could not redirect it on frame as he missed the target wide left.

Republic FC’s first chance came in the 11th minute when forward Trevin Caesar was able to find space in the attacking third. Casear slid a pass into the box for Tyler Blackwood who sent a one-timed shot on goal. The Toros keeper Borja Angoitia was in good position as he went down to the ground and secured the save. Angoitia made another strong save in the 14th minute on a screaming shot from Wilson Kneeshaw that he blocked out of play with a headlong dive.

Republic FC found the breakthrough goal in the 19th minute when midfielder Agustin Cazarez sent a perfect through ball to Kneeshaw. The forward picked his head up as he was running onto the ball and spotted Angoitia charging off of his line. Kneeshaw beat the keeper to the ball and sent a brilliantly flicked chip shot up and over Angoitia before bouncing into an empty net for the one-goal lead.

The home side grabbed a second goal shortly after in the 27th minute when Caesar found Blackwood again in open space. This time Blackwood did not waste his chance as he poked a right-footed shot past Angoitia and into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead for Republic FC.

Caesar would add a goal of his own just before halftime. Kneeshaw found a streaking Caesar in the 42nd minute and the speedster did the rest. Caesar used two shot fakes and some fancy footwork to evade three Toros defenders before beating Angoitia near post with a crafty right-footed finish. Caesar’s efforts gave Republic FC the commanding 3-0 halftime lead.

The Toros would pull another goal back in the 90th minute, with Kyle Murphy scoring and Kai Greene assisting leaving the final score 6-2.

Republic FC’s six goals on the night tied the club record for most goals in a match.  Interestingly enough, both of Republic FC’s six goal performances included a hat trick, as the other performance was a 6-1 victory over Orange County Blues FC (now Orange County SC) on Aug. 17, 2014, a match that included Thomas Stewart’s hat trick.
