Unbeaten in their last six matches, Sacramento Republic FC will look to extend their streak Wednesday night on the road when they face off with Saint Louis FC at Toyota Stadium.
Prior to Wednesday’s match, refresh your memory and reacquaint yourself with Saint Louis FC.
2018 SEASON SO FAR
Falling a point back of eighth-place Swope Park Rangers, Saint Louis FC remains on the outside looking in. Their 32 points on the season currently only prove good enough for ninth place in the Western Conference. However, with a win the club would have an opportunity to jump into seventh place. A six-game unbeaten streak paced Saint Louis FC in the early season, moving to a 3-1-4 record before surrendering 13 goals in their next four matches. Since their draw with Sacramento in late June, Saint Louis has recorded a winning record, picking up victories in their last three contests against Reno 1868 FC, Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Las Vegas Lights FC.
Last time they Met
Last time the two teams met was back on June 23 at Papa Murphy’s Park where Saint Louis FC was able to snag a late equalizer for a 2-2 draw. Cameron Iwasa netted himself a brace, his first goal coming off a counterattack in the 28th minute before adding his second just minutes into the second half. The pair of left-footed strikes marked his sixth and seventh on the season respectively, but Republic FC’s night was upended by Saint Louis’s late comeback bid. A rapid succession of three chances in the 72nd minute allowed Albert Dikwa to put a ball in the net before midfielder Wal Fall snagged the spoiler in the final minute of regulation. A foul on the edge of the 18 begot a free-kick goal bent into the upper corner leading to a points split on the night.
HOME VS AWAY SPLITS
Saint Louis FC has maintained relatively even splits at home and on the road this season, but an additional pair of wins place the club with a 5-2-4 record at Toyota Stadium, while a 3-4-4 record on the road has netted the team a total of 32 points.
KEY PLAYER
On August 9th, Saint Louis FC added a new signee, Austin Jepson, to the team’s roster. The midfielder, out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has yet to appear for the USL side this season but comes with a track record of goal-scoring success at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the PDL’s Des Moines Menace. Jepson scored 25 goals in his 69 collegiate appearances and took home the Horizon League’s Offensive Player of the Year award during his 2017 senior campaign. In his time with Des Moines, Jepson has converted six times in 16 appearances for the Menace while also notching six assists along the way. Should Jepson see playing time, the USL rookie could make some noise as an attacking midfielder.
