Republic FC returns home to Heart Health Park this Saturday for State Fair Night after three consecutive away games. Sacramento showed out at its previous appearance last weekend against Oakland Roots, gaining three points in the ever-changing Western Conference.
The Indomitable Club kept its sixth straight undefeated match at Oakland across all competitions after a 3-1 victory against the Roots and continued their three-game undefeated streak in league play.
In the 19th minute, after a cross by Jack Gurr was curled into the box to the feet of Memo Rodríguez for a one-touch shot, the Boys in Old Glory took the lead. But not before Oakland would respond with a follow-up goal a mere two minutes later.
A sub in the 69th minute bringing Kyle Edwars on the field was the difference maker of the game. After just six minutes of being on the pitch, Edwards followed up a deflected shot by Blake Willey to bring Republic FC up 2-1. To give Oakland no chance at evening the score, Edwards launched a powerful shot to the bottom-left corner to ensure the victory for Sacramento, ending the game at 3-1 in extra time.
“We played well. The guys fought hard, kept it at 1-1, and then I came on and was lucky to get two goals and have the team win. So, I think it was all around a good performance from the boys,” forward Kyle Edwards said.
In USL Championship standings, Republic FC sits eight points back from first place, but has two matches in hand over most of the conference.
Know Your Opponent- Sporting Club Jacksonville
Sporting Club Jacksonville is one of two debutants in USL Championship this year. Jacksonville suffered a 2-0 loss last weekend against El Paso Locomotive on the road and will continue its journey West at Sacramento on Saturday.
After an early lead by El Paso, Jacksonville’s forward Kieran Sadlier had an opportunity in the 21st minute to even the score with a penalty kick but was denied by El Paso’s keeper. Los Locos found the net again in the 83rd minute, widening the gap and securing a 2-1 win over Jacksonville. Sadlier leads the Floridian team as the highest goal scorer with eight goals.
The new kids on the block visit Sacramento in 13th place within the Eastern Conference table.
Head-to-Head
Saturday marks the very first matchup between the two teams, with the result of the game setting the precedent for future meets. Sacramento has hopes to keep their undefeated streak and Jacksonville to make their first impression against Republic FC a good one.
