Republic FC’s U15 team enters the new season with a strong foundation and plenty of momentum. The region’s top 15s team is full of talented players developed in the clubs of Northern California – including Sac United, Napa United, Central Valley Academy, Placer United, Folsom Surf, Stockton TLJ, Roseville Soccer Club, MVLA East, Ajax Modesto, San Jose Earthquakes, Atlético Santa Rosa, FC 23, and San Juan Soccer Club.
Led by David Jimenez, a longtime member of the Academy’s technical staff, the U15s feature ten returning players from last year’s U14 team that reached the postseason.
That continuity, combined with a group of new additions, has created a competitive squad that’s ready to take the next step in its development. The U15 age group is an important stage in Republic FC’s youth development pathway. One where players are expected to demonstrate continued growth, while facing increased competition and new challenges.
“We want them to push themselves every day, compete against the best, learn from difficult moments and enjoy the successes along the way,” said Academy Director Eder Quintanilla. “At the end of the season, the goal is for every player to feel that they have made significant progress, reached a higher level than where they started, and are prepared to advance to the more senior teams.”
“Coach David brings a tremendous amount of experience and understanding of our Academy and of this age group,” continues Quintanilla. “He also did a great job recruiting new players for his team, creating a very competitive squad with a strong level of internal competition.”
The team is making the most of its preseason, building on a 4-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes with a run to the Final of the California Youth Cup over Labor Day Weekend.
Compared to the U14 level, this season presents a big increase in the sheer number of competitions. The regular season is comprised of two different competitions – MLS NEXT and MLS NEXT Flex – which run concurrently. Success in both creates a path to chances to win silverware, from the playoffs to the Generation adidas Cup, the most elite youth competition that features teams from MLS and the renowned academies from around the world.
