SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 3, 2018) — Sacramento Republic FC announced today that the club has signed midfielder Jure Matjašič to a USL contract for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season.
“Jure has played at a high level in Europe, and we are excited to integrate that experience into our team.,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “He combines very well with his teammates and will help our team in possession and in the attack.”
Matjašič joins Republic FC after spending the past two seasons with NK Domzale in Slovenia’s first-division league, PrvaLiga. The 25-year-old midfielder, who can play on either wing, made 32 career appearances for NK Domzale, including four starts in Europa League Qualifiers, recording two goals and three assists in that span.
A native of Ptuj, Slovenia, Matjašič has also represented his national team, earning a cap in their friendly against Turkey on June 5, 2016. He will be the first Slovenian-born player in Republic FC’s history.
Republic FC look to continue their undefeated record in league play when they take on Seattle Sounders FC 2 at home on Saturday, April 7.
