Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle
(On the defeat)
“It’s so difficult in sport to get a balance when you’re winning or losing, what you say to the players, what you don’t say to the players. But the one thing this evening that cost us was individual error. A penalty, which I think it was if I’m honest, I think [Hall] caught him and he sort of went down late. And then I don’t know what we were doing in the back [on the second goal] where we let the ball go. And you can’t afford to do that.”
(On bouncing back)
“I’d rather these things happen now, believe it or not. We went on three game winless streak [at the beginning of the] last season and then we ended up winning the Western Conference so it can be done. So what we have to do is not brush certain things under the carpet and at the same time keep the belief because I felt like the players kept going tonight.”
Sacramento Republic FC Forward Wilson Kneeshaw
(On the frontline’s chemistry)
“I think me personally, I had one chance in the first half and a header in the second half that came to me. I should have hit the target and obviously we would have scored if I hit the target. I think as a team we just need to get back to what we were doing against OC. We just need to buy into what the coach is saying, and work harder and harder on the training field and the results will come. We’ve had three results that have been difficult for us, but it’s a long season and we knew these times were going to come. Now it’s just the resiliency in the squad now, that we have to show it and come back better.”
Sacramento Republic FC Forward Sammy Ochoa
(On the match)
“We had chances, [T2] were good in the back. I think this was their first win of the season, we were trying to not let them get their first one here and two mistakes cost us. We did have chances but we just have to keep working as we go on the road next week.”
Timbers FC 2 Head Coach Andrew Gregor
(On the match)
“It was a good road win for us, tough game obviously against a good club, a good team that put us under pressure. I think we did a good job of managing it. We saw some of our young guys grow up and that’s important for the development side for them and our performance I think was very good. I was pleased with the backline, with Zarek Valentin coming down from the Timbers [MLS] and putting in a really good performance. It’s important for this group to get their first win on the road against a really good team. I think it’s going to help with their confidence and help push us in the right direction.”
Timbers FC 2 Forward Augustine Williams
(On the win)
“We’re all excited. Coming out here, we were looking to get three points on the road. It’s a huge opportunity. I’m glad the boys came out here and worked really hard. We fought out and it wasn’t easy, but we got the three points.”
