Ever wondered how Republic FC players spend their free time when they’re not out grinding at another training session or traveling on the road with the team?
We asked defender Mike da Fonte and goalkeeper Evan Newton five quick questions about themselves after a training session. Continue reading to get to know da Fonte and Newton a little better.
Five Questions with Mike da Fonte
1. Who are a few of your favorite artists or bands at the moment?
J Cole and Drake
2. What was the best (soccer) advice you were ever given?
I was told once that every minute you’re not practicing someone else is.
3. What is your favorite thing about Bonney Field?
The amount of fans we get to the matches is incredible!
4. What team is your favorite team to play as on FIFA 16?
I usually play with Real Madrid.
What is your order at Chipotle?
I get a chicken burrito bowl.
Five Questions with Evan Newton
1. Where’s your favorite place in Sacramento (so far)?
It’s too early for me to answer that so I urge the fans to tweet me their favorites!
(Fans you can tweet Newton your suggestions at @NewtonEvan13.)
2. Who is/are your role model(s)?
My role models are my parents for too many reasons to name. From a soccer stand point, I’d say my mentor would have to be Jon Busch!
3. What is your favorite soccer memory?
Last year [when I was with Energy FC] saving the final penalty in the USL Western Conference Semifinals to win the match would have to be up there! If not that one, my diving header for a goal at U-11 to win the big rivalry game.
4. Do you have any matchday superstitions?
I have a ton, from eating the exact same meals every matchday, to listening to the same worship songs, to putting on all my right side gear first, to warm ups. There’s little things throughout the day, all the way up to game time that I do.
5. What is your order at Chipotle?
Chipotle would be a chicken burrito with guacamole and hot sauce, but if during the offseason, I’m going with the secret non-menu order of a quesarito with chicken!
