After a back and forth first half for both sides, Republic FC tallied first just after halftime in the 51st minute when defender Emrah Klimenta broke up the right wing and sent a curling out-swinging cross into the box. Midfielder Danny Barrera was left unmarked just in front of Los Dos keeper Clement Diop. Barrera sent a strong header to the near post, beating Diop for the 1-0 lead for Republic FC.
Los Dos would find the equalizer shortly after when midfielder Jose Villarreal sent a cross to his brother in the box in the 57th minute. Jaime Villarreal was able to loose his defender and get his head on the cross as he sent a powerful header past the diving Republic FC keeper Dominik Jakubek evening the score 1-1.

Jose Villarreal wasted no time in grabbing the go-ahead goal as he took advantage of a Derek Foran turnover in the defensive zone in the 58th minute. Jose Villarreal took two touches across the face of goal to draw Jakubek off of his line and promptly sent a right-footed curling shot around Jakubek and into the back of the net for the quick 2-1 lead for Los Dos.
Republic FC found the answer in the 81st minute when defender James Kiffe received a beautiful ball out wide from midfielder Tommy Thompson. Kiffe used a well-timed cross fake to get space on the left wing before sending a left-footed cross into the box where second-half substitute Daniel Trickett-Smith found open space to send his header into the back of the net past Diop for the equalizer.
Despite being down a man after Trickett-Smith was shown a second yellow of the match, Republic FC attacked for a winning goal relentlessly. Unfortunately, chances from Barrera and Cameron Iwasa, the home side could not find the winner as they settled for a 2-2 draw with their rivals from LA.
“Individual error is one of the toughest things to stamp out” said Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle after the 2-2 draw. “Again, tonight that’s a game we should have won. We were in total control.”
Republic FC will be back in action again on Wednesday, June 8 when they take on Real Monarchs SLC at Bonney Field. Kickoff is 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.
