Sacramento Republic FC and Volunteers of America are teaming up for a third year in a row to collect backpacks and school supplies for homeless and at-risk youth throughout the Sacramento region.
Republic FC will host the Backpack Drive alongside Volunteers of America at Saturday’s match vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. The match is Back to School Night presented by Arden Fair.
Fans may bring their donations of backpacks and school supplies to Republic FC’s match vs Whitecaps FC 2. Donation bins will be located at the gates of Bonney Field and there will be volunteers helping fans drop off their items.
The donations will benefit children from pre-K to 12th grade. Fans are encouraged to buy a backpack and fill it with items found on the Operation Backpack school supply lists found below. Sample items include pencils, three-ring binders, crayons, etc.
Every year Operation Backpack provides thousands of backpacks, school supplies, and a variety of support services to poverty-stricken or homeless children throughout the Greater Sacramento Area.
Tickets to Saturday’s match are still available at Ticketmaster.com. Kickoff is 8 p.m. The match will be broadcast on Sports 1140 KHTK, online at www.sacrepublicfc.com/matchday or on the USL YouTube channel.
