This week in Sacramento Republic FC news, Academy alumnus shines in college play and Republic FC gear up for Day of the Dead and Halloween festivities.
1. Academy alumnus Joseph Restani named WCC Player of the Week
Sacramento Republic FC Academy alumnus Joseph Restani was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week this week. Restani, a Saint Mary’s freshmen, was named Player of the Week after scoring his third goal of the season in a 1-0 conference win over San Francisco at Saint Mary’s Stadium this past weekend.
Restani leads the Gaels with his three goals, which have all been match-winning tallies. While with Republic FC Academy, Restani scored 12 goals during the 2015-2016 regular season as well as one playoff goal. Restani helped lead Republic FC U-17/18s to a top eight finish in the Academy’s first year of U.S. Soccer Development Academy play.
2. Join Republic FC at the Calaveras & Corn Festival this weekend
Looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday? Join Republic FC at the Calaveras & Corn Festival at the Casa de Español at 1101 R Street in Sacramento. The free family carnival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature carnival games, hayrides, face painting, an art station, a pumpkin patch and a haunted house. There will also be a kids’ costume contest. Following the carnival, from 3-6:30 p.m. there will be a special mezcal cantina experience where event attendees can learn about the history of this traditional Mexican beverage.
Proceeds from the event benefit La Familia Counseling Center and Help Chiapas.
3. MLS Playoffs kick off on Wednesday
For Republic FC fans craving some soccer action, the 2016 MLS Audi Cup playoffs kick off on Wednesday as the knock out matches for the Playoffs start on Wednesday.
In the Eastern Conference, no. 3 ranked Toronto FC take on no 6. Philadelphia Union on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2, TSN2 and UniMás followed by no. 4 D.C. United and no. 5 Montreal at 4:30 p.m. on UniMás.
Meanwhile in the Western Conference, no. 3 LA Galaxy face no. 6 Real Salt Lake on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. PT on TSN/TSN5, RDS2 and UniMás. No. 4 Seattle Sounders and no. 5 Sporting KC wrap up the final knockout match on Thursday at 7 p.m. on FS1 and UniMás.
