SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 15, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC will travel south to take on MLS side LA Galaxy on Wednesday, Jun. 28 in the Fifth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at the StubHub Center Track Stadium. This is the first time that Republic FC has advanced to the Fifth Round. They are one of just three non-MLS clubs to reach the Round of 16 in this year’s competition, joining FC Cincinnati (USL) and Miami FC (NASL).
This will be the first-ever competitive match between Republic FC and LA Galaxy. The winner of the match will travel to face the winner of the San Jose Earthquakes–Seattle Sounders FC matchup.
Republic FC is no stranger to LA Galaxy, having faced their USL side LA Galaxy II 14 times in the last three years, including twice in the USL playoffs. Republic FC holds a 7-3-4 all-time record against LA Galaxy II, with all previous matches being played against former Los Dos and current LA Galaxy head coach Curt Onalfo. Most significantly, Republic FC defeated Los Dos 3-2 in the USL Cup Semifinals in a match dubbed “The Miracle at Bonney” on their way to their 2014 USL Championship.
Tickets will be available for purchase for Republic FC fans and supporters that plan to travel to the match. Tickets on-sale date and time to be announced soon.
