Sacramento Republic FC Academy player Rafael Jauregui has been called up to the U.S. Under-14 Boys’ National Team for their training camp in Zagreb, Croatia. This will be the first training camp that new U-15 BNT head coach Clint Peay will lead, having previously served in the same role with the U-14 BNT.
The camp will run from May 5-May 16. The U-15 BNT will first face Croatian club NK Velika Gorica on May 8, before taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 8 and 10. They’ll close out the camp with a friendly against Serbia on May 15.
This will be the first international trip for Jauregui with the U-15s, having previously been called up to domestic camps earlier this year. The games mark the first international trip for the U-15s as whole, as well as their first international matches abroad this cycle. This is the third call-up for the age group of players born in 2004, following domestic camps in Sunrise, Fla. and Chula Vista, Calif., earlier this year.
Currently, the U-15 BNT is in a two-year cycle that will come to a head with the 2019 Concacaf U-15 Championship. The group will then transition to the U-17 MNT in 2020, creating the core of the team that will seek qualification for the 2021 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Jauregui is one of eight Republic FC players who have been called up to a U.S. Soccer youth national teams. This is the forward’s third call-up this cycle. Jauregui currently plays with the Republic FC U-14 team.
