Sacramento Republic FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen is joining dozens of MLS, USL and NWSL soccer players on the Playing for Pride team, an annual movement during Pride Month that raises funds for LGBTQ rights and advocacy.

Playing for Pride was a campaign started by soccer player Austin da Luz last year to advocate for LGBTQ rights and equality through the sport. Players sign up for the team pledging $5 per game played, $4 per assist and $6 per goal. Fans can pledge to match their favorite players’ donations and all the funds raised from Playing for Pride will be donated to Athlete Ally, an LGBTQ nonprofit working to end homophobia and transphobia in sport.
As a goalkeeper, Cohen has put his own twist on the campaign and has pledged to donate $5 per game, $5 per win, $10 per shutout and $1 per save for every match during Pride Month. Republic FC currently have seven matches scheduled in June and could play even more based on Wednesday’s result against Seattle Sounders FC in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup.
