Sac Republic FC Head Coach Mark Briggs joined The Breakaway this week to chat about the 2020 season and talk about what the offseason will entail for him.
Coach Briggs provided his special view from the sidelines about the incredible story after Julian Chavez and Mario Penagos’ late goals against Portland and watching the two academy call-ups enjoy the moment even after the final whistle.

Coach Briggs provided his special view from the sidelines about the incredible story after Julian Chavez and Mario Penagos’ late goals against Portland and watching the two academy call-ups enjoy the moment even after the final whistle.
“After the game, some of the players who didn’t play too much were on the field doing their fitness,” Briggs stated. “I just remember turning around and looking down and Mario and Juju were running down the field doing their sprints with their arms out like an airplane down the field. I just remember thinking that is what it’s all about. Not a care in the world, they are just on cloud nine.”

The gaffer went through some of the highs and lows of the season and included the comeback against Orange County with a man down in as one of the most memorable moments of the season.
“It was nice to see the reaction of the group with the quality of football we played. I felt that we played our hearts out and we gave every single ounce we had, but the quality of football we played that night was one of the brightest moments of the year,” Briggs said.

With the offseason underway, Mark Briggs is knee-deep in player scouting, assisting General Manager Todd Dunivant in developing the road to success for the club in 2021.
