On Thursday, USL Championship announced that Luis Felipe’s 77th minute score from Republic FC’s October 2 victory over Tacoma Defiance has been nominated for USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month for October.
After fielding a cross from Emil Cuello, the Brazilian midfielder carried the ball into space before rocketing an uncontested shot from 35 yards out past the Tacoma goalkeeper, and into the top left corner. The strike, along with an impressive 90% passing accuracy, earned him USL Team of the Week Honors as well. He finished the season with five goals, tying his career-high for single-season scores.
This is the Republic FC’s fourth nomination for Goal of the Month this season, with 18-year-old Julian Chavez bringing home the trophy in October.
