Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Luis Felipe has moved on to the final round of the 2021 Fans’ Choice Goal of the Year Competition. The midfielder will be up against New Mexico United’s Austin Yearwood – the League’s Goal of the Month Winner for June 2021.
Voting is open now through December 27 at 9:00 a.m. PT at USLChampionship.com — be sure to scroll down from the bracket to select Felipe. All voters will be entered to win a $100 Select gift card.
Felipe advances after winning the semi-final matchup over Rio Grande Valley FC’s Rodrigo Lopez. In the opening round, Luis Felipe defeated Republic FC teammate Julian Chavez, who took home September Goal of the Month honors. He is the first Republic FC player to reach the final round of the competition since the league introduced the bracket competition format following the 2015 season.
The midfielder’s left-footed banger against Tacoma Defiance not only won October’s fan vote, but earned a lot of praise on social media. After pushing the ball ahead, the Brazilian midfielder surprised everyone with a shot from 35 yards out that sailed into the top-right corner. Felipe’s Goal of the Month win secured back-to-back victories for the Indomitable Club.
