The Latest on the Team:
Sacramento took their third win in four training camp contests last weekend, defeating Central Valley Fuego FC 3-2 in their first-ever meeting with the League One side. Rodrigo Lopez got the club on the board early, finding the net off an Emil Cuello assist just a minute after the opening whistle. Additional scores from Maalique Foster and a trialist making his team debut secured the victory late.
Saturday’s match will be a big day for Republic FC, who will be playing their first match open to the public at Heart Health Park this season. As the club’s final tune up before the season opener, the entire squad will be taking the contest seriously as they look to get into top form for El Paso on March 12.
Opponent Report
Saturday will be Monterey’s third preseason contest – they previously held a pair of meetings with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, recording one win and one loss. It will also mark a pair of firsts for the club – it will be both the Seaside squad’s first visit to Sacramento and first match with fans in the stands.
Ahead of their inaugural season, the club has been extremely active on the free-agent wire as they finalize their roster. Recently, the club welcomed former San Antonio FC midfielder Sam Gleadle, while also acquiring defender Kai Greene from Oakland Roots SC and signing former Portland Timbers and Las Vegas Lights FC midfielder Mobi Fehr.
Head-to-Head
Saturday’s scrimmage will be the first meeting between the two sides. However, it appears to be the first of many for the two clubs. They’ll meet three times in league play during the season – twice in Seaside on June 25 and August 13, and once in Sacramento on April 2.
