Another Sunday matinee at Heart Health Park brings Eastern Conference foe Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC to Sacramento .The match is the Quails’ last against an out-of-conference opponent this season, and comes against a Steel City side looking to fight their way back into the top four in the East.
Last Week’s Drama
Pittsburgh is looking to snap a winless streak that stretched to four matches against San Antonio FC on October 1. It wasn’t an easy night to play with rain and cold slowing each team down, but San Antonio found a score with just four minutes left to claim a strong road victory. The club was kept scoreless for the third time in six matches dating to August 31, continuing a tough offensive stretch that’s seen them net just four scores in that timeframe.
Pittsburgh This Season
Sunday’s match will be just the second all time between the two clubs. The only other meeting came in Sacramento’s debut 2014 season, a July contest ending as a 5-0 rout at Heart Health Park. Rodrigo Lopez netted two scores as the Indomitable Club cruised to victory and kicked off a six-match winning streak.
The club kicked off 2022 as hot as any, and went on another tear in July – both times a byproduct of strong offensive production. However, their second half of the season has ebbed and flowed. The Hounds have fallen just three times, but only bested one team currently over the playoff line since the start of July. Their recent skid has left what final position they will claim a mystery, especially with things so tight in the Eastern Conference heading into the final two weeks.
