The Latest – Republic FC
Sacramento snapped its three match losing streak with a draw at home to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Sunday afternoon. The club came back home and put in a good performance and earned an important point in the table heading into the final week. Rodrigo Lopez netted opening score from the penalty spot, but Pittsburgh answered back and held on for the split.
Even if their playoff spot is secured, there’s still something to play for on Fan Appreciation Night. Seeding in the Western Conference is unlikely to be settled until the final whistle sounds on every match. Currently, the Quails still need one point to secure a top-4 finish – nabbing a home tie for the 2022 playoffs.
Opponent Report
All is settled for San Diego heading into the postseason – except their first round opponent. However, the club has gone two matches without a victory since defeating Las Vegas on September 24. Landon Donovan’s men have been amongst the best attacking squads all season and they’ve kept it up recently by scoring ten goals in their last four matches.
Most recently, they traded punches with New Mexico United in a 3-3 draw at home. They’ve been vulnerable on the backline of late, recording just one clean sheet in nine contests dating to August 13.
Head to Head
Saturday will be the seventh all-time contest between the two sides. San Diego took a 2-0 win in the two clubs’ first meeting of the season in March. However, Sacramento outplayed their foes in the second half. All time, Republic FC and Loyal SC have played to four draws with the only wins in the fixture going the way of the SoCal side.
