Know Your Opponent
Switchbacks FC comes west following two 1-0 victories in league play, each resulting from game-winners by Romario Williams. Last week, they overcame a missed penalty, scoring late to best Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at home in a match where they dominated the possession balance. The week before they defeated Loudoun United 1-0 on the road after scoring in the fifth minute.
The Rocky Mountain side will bring four players familiar to Sacramento fans west with them. Drew Skudrich, Duke Lacroix, and Maalique Foster all signed with the club during the offseason and Matt Mahoney remains on the Colorado club’s roster. Foster, Lacroix, and Skundrich’s acquisitions headlined an eventful offseason for the club where they also brought on James Musa from Phoenix Rising and Romario Williams from New Mexico United.
Head-to-Head
Saturday will be the 12th all-time matchup between Sacramento and Colorado Springs. All-time, each club has taken 5 wins and shared points twice. Republic FC has been better on its home field, taking three of its five wins at Heart Health Park.
Last season, the two clubs faced off three times, splitting the regular season fixtures. In the third matchup – the Western Conference semifinal round of the postseason – Colorado Springs bested Sacramento 2-1 after extra time.
