Republic FC – The Latest
Republic FC put in another dominating performance last week in a 4-0 result over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Russell Cicerone netted his 50th career goal en route to a three-score first half, and Sacramento extended its shutout streak to five matches, currently the top mark in the league and club history. Now in sole possession of first place in the West with 14 points, Sacramento kept their spot atop the league’s power rankings.
A result against Detroit would be big for the club as it kicks off a challenging stretch of three contests in eight days. Wednesday, Oakland Roots SC visits Heart Health Park for a NorCal derby in U.S. Open Cup play before the following weekend’s contest takes the Quails to Oklahoma to play FC Tulsa.
Know Your Opponent
Le Rouge also has multiple games on their mind, as Open Cup action pits them against Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United Wednesday. But in the first contest of a similar three-in-eight-day stretch, their squad will be fresh, and looking for a way to get back in the win column to set themselves up for success in one of their club’s biggest matches.
Saturday’s contest is Detroit City’s third straight on the road after trips to Louisville and Miami to play inter-conference foes. The club has had some tough luck the past month or so, falling in a trio of one-score games despite excellent backline play allowing just five scores on the season. Last Week’s scoreless draw snapped a three-game skid where they were only outscored 3-0.
Head-to-Head
Republic FC leads the all-time fixture, claiming a 2-0 victory in the pair’s only meeting last June to hand Le Rouge its first home loss of the year. Damia Viader netted his second of the year for the winner and Keko got on the scoresheet in the second half off an assist from Rodrigo Lopez. Saturday marks the first meeting in Sacramento.
