Ahead of Republic FC’s Women’s Empowerment Match, the Sacramento region’s next generation of female soccer stars will have the opportunity to work on their footwork and technical skills at Republic FC’s upcoming free All-Girls Clinic.
On Saturday, May 13, 9-11 a.m., girls ages 6-16 and of all skill levels are invited to participate in this fun session in Land Park with the top youth coaches in the area. Registration is completely free!
Not only will participants get the chance to sharpen individual skills such as dribbling, passing, and finishing, but Republic FC’s Youth Training Programs coaches will provide a fun and exciting environment that will lay the foundation for success off the field – including teamwork, leadership, and focus.
Participants will also receive a free ticket to that night’s Women’s Empowerment Match when Republic FC hosts Indy Eleven at Heart Health Park. As a part of the evening’s festivities, Republic FC and UC Davis Health will highlight and thank women and girls who are making a difference in sports and business throughout the region. Parents and families will be able to purchase additional tickets.
Republic FC is committed to supporting girls’ participation in sports and addressing the barriers that are standing in the way of equal representation and access both on and off the pitch. According to the Go Out and Play: Youth Sports in America study, by age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys. This can be attributed to several factors, including: lack of access (girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play high school sports than boys do), social stigma, decreased quality of experience (such as unequal training facilities), and cost.
At the same time, statistics show the correlation between girls’ participation in sports and success off the pitch – both personally and professionally. Through sports, girls learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and confidence as evidenced in a 2020 report that found that 94% of C-suite women participated in at least one sport at some point in their life. Additionally, girls who play sports have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem, as well as lower levels of depression.
