Week 14 of the USL Championship season saw Sacramento secure another point on the road, playing to a 1-1 draw in Southern California against San Diego Loyal SC. The match extended the club’s unbeaten run to four matches, keeping the, brought the Quails with positive points after three road fixtures.
“It’s a difficult place to come,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs of San Diego. “It’s our third game on the road in the last three weeks. So five points from nine isn’t a bad thing to come home with.”
“We’re disappointed, because we were the better team out there,” said Dami Viader after the match. “We have the potential to win these kinds of games. But it was a good performance overall.”
Sacramento still showcased what’s made them the league’s best throughout the season. The club’s 29th minute goal came from an artful build up that found its way to Viader, who put it in with a composed finish. The Spaniard’s score is now nominated for Goal of the Week. Danny Vitiello put in an excellent shift between the sticks, recording a season-high six saves while Lee Desmond didn’t miss a beat in his first start since returning from injury in May.
The club now turns all their focus to playing at home – something they are eagerly looking forward to. Sacramento has secured at least a point in every match at Heart Health Park, and is tied for the most home clean sheets league wide at four.
“We’re really glad that we have now three games in a row at home,” Viader continued, referencing the club’s oncoming homestand. “We need the fans and the supporters to [come] cheer for us and hopefully we get some more wins.”
“It’ll be nice to play back at Heart Health Park in front of our fans,” said Briggs. “We haven’t done it for three weeks and have traveled all over the country. It’ll be nice to get them some rest and then prepare to play at home in front of our fans. And hopefully put on a performance we can be proud of.”
