Republic FC – The Latest

Sacramento returned home from its three-match road trip with five of nine points from three straight results. Last Friday, the club secured the season’s fixture with San Diego Loyal SC in a 1-1 draw. Danny Vitiello nabbed Team of the Week honors, and Dami Viader was nominated for the league’s weekly top score. A harsh decision allowed the hosts to equalize from the penalty spot, but the positive performance closed a tough stretch of games.
This season, Sacramento is unbeaten at home, playing to six wins and one draw in seven matches. The six home wins have come in consecutive fashion since March 25, and during that time, the club has recorded four clean sheets and only conceded two goals.
Know Your Opponent
Monterey Bay comes to the state capitol in good form. Wins in each of the past two weeks have put the Seaside club back on track after a tough stretch in May. Last weekend’s winner came at Las Vegas in the 89th minute. And just two weeks ago, Monterey Bay found the net four times at home against Loudoun United.
All season, the club has been among the league’s most dangerous on the attack. MBFC boasts the league’s best conversion rate, and has scored the third-most goals of any club this season. A front three of Alex Dixon, Sam Gleadle, and Christian Volesky has led that charge, scoring 17 of Monterey Bay’s 24 on the season.
Players to Watch
While Dixon, Gleadle, and Volesky have been responsible for the bulk of Monterey Bay’s scoring this season, midfielder James Murphy has been almost just as important on the attack. Murphy ranks second on his squad with 11 chances created this season and has been a constant presence in the club’s build up to the attacking third.
For Sacramento, Danny Vitiello secured Team of the Week honors for Sacramento last week, tallying six saves. Another strong performance could be in the books for the shot-stopper as he looks for his and the club’s first clean sheet in league play since April 22. Earlier this week, Vitiello was recognized as one of the league’s stingiest goalkeepers so far in 2023.

Head to Head
Sacramento has claimed wins in two of three contests all-time vs. Monterey Bay. Last season, Republic FC bested the seaside club at home on March 27 and on the road on July 25, before falling on August 13. All three matches were decided by one score.
