Earlier today, the USL Championship announced Republic FC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello’s 68th minute save against Las Vegas Lights FC has been nominated for Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 30. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com and on the league’s social channels through Friday, October 6 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
A cross from the goal line found a Lights FC player crashing the net for a one-touch shot at goal, but a leaping attempt to swat the ball away by Vitiello kept Sacramento’s clean sheet intact. The stop was one of three saves tallied by Vitiello for the match as Sacramento tallied its 13th clean sheet of the season – a new club record for shutouts in a single regular season campaign.
This is Vitiello’s second nomination for the weekly fan vote in as many weeks, and his fourth this season. Last week, Vitiello was nominated for a double save in the 34th minute of the club’s match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Carlos Saldaña took home the honor for Week 26 Save of the Week with a diving save against Oakland Roots SC on September 2.
Republic FC returns to the pitch this Saturday in its final road match of the 2023 season against Rio Grande Valley FC.
