After showing well at last weekend’s CA Cup, Republic FC’s Academy squads resumed league play this weekend with a full slate of games. Saturday, the club earned victories in 4-of-5 contests against Santa Cruz Breakers FC. Sunday, Sacramento’s U16’s made it a two-win week with another victory on the road against Lamorinda SC.
Against the Breakers
The U-17 squad kicked off the day with an exciting 1-0 win. After playing to a scoreless draw for a majority of the match, midfielder Jackson Martin netted the game-winner in the 87th minute. The score was his second of the season after being sidelined for the first half of the MLS NEXT campaign with a knee injury. The U15’s and U16’s followed with wins of their own, each by multi-goal margins. After securing hardware at the California Cup, the U15’s continued their form against the Breakers, earning a 3-0 win via goals from Brayden Vu, Rylan Hashimoto and Julian Nunez-Corona. The U16 squad bested Breakers 2-0 Saturday before claiming a second victory in a 3-1 result Sunday on the road at Lamorinda SC.
After the U-14s suffered a narrow 1-0 loss – the squads’ second defeat in league play this season, Sacramento’s U13’s rounded out Saturday with a 3-0 victory. The result maintained improved their undefeated record on the season to 15-0-0 in MLS NEXT league play. As of January 23, the squad is one of only six teams nation-wide in their age group with an unblemished record.
Preview: Republic FC at Diablo Valley Wolves
This weekend, all five youth squads head to the Easy Bay Area to take on Diablo Valley Wolves. This will be the first time the clubs face each other this season as SRFC looks to continue its strong start to the year. It kicks off a challenging stretch of the schedule for the club’s youth squads, which will play on the road in three of the next five weekends.
