With the start of a new Academy season, a new class of players join the Indomitable Club as a part of the U13 team. For many, this season marks their first experience inside a professional club’s academy environment, an opportunity to team up with the top young players in the region and represent the Republic FC badge in competition.
The majority of players came through the Pre-Academy U12 Program, which launched earlier this year as a pathway into the Academy. While continuing to compete for their youth clubs, players participated in weekly training sessions within Republic FC’s Academy environment, gaining an introduction to the club’s methodology, standards, and coaching. Local clubs represented among this year’s team include: San Juan Soccer Club, Placer United, Folsom Surf, CV Fútbol, Stockton TLJ, Union FC, Woodland Soccer Club, Galt FC, Solano Surf, Almaden FC, Roseville Soccer Club, and City SC Kings Country.
Now they begin the next step of that journey as Academy players.
“This first season in the Academy is an opportunity for each player to grow and adapt to a new level of competition, while also experiencing wonderful moments and creating memories they will never forget,” said Academy Director Eder Quintanilla. “We want each individual player to finish the season feeling fulfilled, knowing that they became a better player and a better person – this is what sets the foundation for a successful Academy journey.”
The squad is led by Head Coach Brian Willey, who has been with the Academy since its 2015 season. With 27 years of coaching experience and a long-standing commitment to youth player development in the Sacramento region, Willey plays a key role in introducing players to what it means to be a part of the Republic FC family.
“Brian is wonderful with our younger players because he has so much experience coaching this age group in this league,” said Quintanilla. “He knows the values of this club inside and out, understands exactly what players at this age need – both on and off the field – and knows how to motivate them and help them reach their fullest potential. His experience allows him to create the right environment for young players to learn, compete, enjoy the game and continue developing.”
