For Republic FC’s U17s, the upcoming season brings a valuable combination of continuity, confidence, and opportunity.
Fourteen players from last year’s U16 squad return to form the foundation of this year’s U17 team – a group that has already found proven success together. Last season, the U16s not only finished at the top of their division, but also made a statement at the MLS NEXT Flex tournament, finishing first in their group after defeating MLS club Chicago Fire.

Now that core, along with some key offseason additions, moves up an age group with another opportunity to prove itself.
“The main goal for the year is creating an environment where every player can improve on a daily basis,” said Head of Talent Identification and U17 Head Coach Axel Duarte. “We want all of our players to represent the values of our club, to show the behaviors and standards that will make us successful together.”
For Duarte, the focus isn’t just on the on-field performance, but equally so on setting players up for bright futures, no matter the path they choose. “The things we do on a daily basis will make a big impact later on. Some players’ future looks like playing at the collegiate level or even going pro, but for others that could mean becoming a doctor or an architect. But no matter what they want to do, it comes down to hard work and staying focused.”
As players get older, the competition in league play and across the country gets tighter and tighter. By this age, many have either already committed to colleges or are preparing to sign their letter of intent, while some may be beginning to explore professional opportunities. For Republic FC U17 players, the chance to play at the next level begins to become more of a reality, with more opportunities to play with the First Team, more exposure to top-level competition, and an even bigger spotlight during the postseason.
