Earlier today, the USL Championship announced the Week 31 Team of the Week. For the second straight week and fifth time this season, Republic FC’s Memo Rodriguez has earned a spot on the league’s top weekly squad.
Memo led the charge for the Indomitable Club during last week’s crucial stretch of three games in eight days. Building on his Player of the Week performance against New Mexico United, the 30-year-old midfielder continued his impressive run of form with a one goal, one assist performance against Las Vegas Lights on Wednesday night. After Vegas got the early lead, Memo equalized with a long-distance shot that completely froze the goalkeeper.
He went on to play a role in both of Republic FC’s second half goals as well. The Lights regained the lead after the break, but after Sacramento was awarded a penalty, Memo stepped up to the spot and delivered a well-struck penalty that created a big rebound off the goalkeeper that eventually found Tyler Wolff for a tap-in goal. Then in the 82nd minute, he sent in a long corner kick that reached Kyle Edwards on the back post for a one-touch volley that secured Sacramento’s second consecutive come-from-behind win.
He closed out the week with another goal – his 13th goal contribution of the season – with a late-match equalizer in Tulsa on Saturday night. Memo was brought down outside the box in the 89th minute and with a free kick at his feet, he fired off a shot that sailed through the wall into the corner of the net to secure a valuable point in the Western Conference race to the playoffs.
Just three games remain in the regular season, starting with Saturday’s home match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Noche Latina. From a pre-game Noche Latina Fiesta featuring live entertainment, to exclusive limited-edition merchandise, to special ticket package options – this is a night that fans won’t want to miss. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available now at SacRepublicFC.com.
