But in order to do so, children in the community need sufficient supplies and resources to thrive, especially during this difficult and unchartered time of distanced learning.
“Distance learning is a challenge for all, and especially for the many students who will start the schoolyear at a disadvantage without the necessary supplies for an enriching year,” said Republic FC President and COO Ben Gumpert. “We’re proud to partner with community champions like KCRA, SMUD, Cal Expo and IHeartRadio, as well as with our generous fans, to collect donations that will help students throughout the region start the year off on the right path.”
The drive – which is set to take place on Monday, August 31 from 7 a.m. PT to 5 p.m. PT at Cal Expo – hopes to gather everything from pens, paper and pencils to backpacks, USB zip drives and hand sanitizer. A full list of the items on the registry can be found by visiting www.kidshome.org/fill-a-backpack-drive/ and fans also have the opportunity to make donations to the drive as well.
Individuals making donations are encouraged to drive through the California Letters are the Main Gate at 1600 Exposition Blvd. and additional information can be found by visiting the CA State Fair Website.
