A pair of fellow goalkeepers clashed in the final fixture of the SRFC x FIFA20 Tournament with Justin Sterk downing the Indomitable Club’s Rafael Diaz, 3-1.
The honor of playing against the Republic FC goalkeeper, on top of winning four VIP Field Seats to an upcoming SRFC match, was Sterk’s prize for advancing through the recent 32-player FIFA20 competition on Playstation 4.
Sterk, playing as Liverpool FC, took the lead on the cusp of halftime when the Reds were awarded a penalty kick that Mo Salah slammed into the top left corner.
As Sterk and Diaz conversed back and forth throughout the entirety of the match, the SRFC GK saw an opportunity to take a friendly jab at Sterk given the history between the two storied English clubs both players selected to use. After Diaz confirmed Sterk had been a Liverpool supporter for a number of years now, a friendly shot was fired.
“So, you’ve been a fan for Liverpool for a while?” Diaz asked. “You must remember the Stevie G slip, huh? Devasting for you, amazing for me!”

During the break, Diaz mentioned how former Republic FC forward Stefano Bonomo had texted the SRFC goalkeeper mid-match, letting him know he had eyes on the game being broadcast live on Twitch.

Unfortunately for the Sacramento shot stopper, Sterk and Liverpool took a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute when Roberto Firmino’s silky turn at the top of the box allowed the Brazilian playmaker to drill his effort by fellow countryman and Chelsea ‘keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
“That turn was sick,” Diaz shouted. “That does not happen in real life!”
But Diaz was far from done and continued pushing his Chelsea side forward. His persistence was rewarded in the 70th minute when Olivier Giroud connected on a scissor kick that bounced by Liverpool GK Alisson to cut the Reds lead in half, 2-1.
Despite the home support at Stamford Bridge, Diaz and Chelsea were unable to find an equalizer and in the 84th minute, Sterk put the game to bed when Firmino bagged his brace with a stunning strike from close range to lift Liverpool to an eventual 3-1 win.
The loss wasn’t the preferred outcome, but a gracious Diaz offered congratulations to Sterk and offered to send him an invitation to a few additional matches in the future.
