Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle:
(On overall season)
“I’ve been in the game long enough and that’s football. I’m very proud of what we’ve done this season. Players have done remarkable. To keep raising the bar is difficult but we’ve done it. Finishing number one in the West and then getting beat by number eight in the playoffs, it’s tough but it’s the playoffs.”
(On the match)
“I thought it was an edgy game. I think there were great opportunities. There was one that Evan [Newton] let go and we got a bit of fortune there. I thought we were actually going to win it in extra time. I though we got into some good areas but when it goes to penalties, players have to hold their nerves and it’s not easy. We practiced [penalties], and right to the very end we worked hard and it just wasn’t our night. I congratulate Barry and Orange County and we’ve got to dust ourselves off.”
(On the fan support throughout the season)
“The supporters have been incredible. The challenge is to improve every year. We’re building on and off the field. These boys have done tremendous and we couldn’t have done it without the supporters. The supporters have been there for us. We’ve had supporters on the road as well which was unbelievable. We’ve had some brilliant times this season.”
