The boys in Old Glory Red won their first USL Western Conference regular season title on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Tulsa, finishing in first place with a 14-6-10 overall record and 52 points. They head into playoffs the top seed in the West and guaranteed home pitch advantage through at least the first three rounds, pending advancing through each round.

Republic FC finished their regular season by coasting to a dominate 4-0 victory against the Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday, and then captured the Western Conference title later that evening when Orange County Blues FC beat Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 4-0.
“We’re all excited to win the West,” said forward Cameron Iwasa. “That was the goal at the start of the season, so to have achieved it is huge. We all know we still have a lot to do to make a playoff run and bring the trophy back to Sacramento.”
Orange County Blues FC punched their ticket to the postseason with a hard fought win against Colorado, claiming the eight and final spot in the 2016 USL Playoffs.
Saturday’s quarterfinal will be the fifth meeting between Republic FC and Orange County this year, with Republic FC leading the series 2-1-1. Republic FC most recently captured a narrow 1-0 road and 2-1 home win against the Blues on Aug. 24 and Sept. 3 respectively.
The Southern California club thwarted Republic FC’s Western Conference title hopes last year when the two sides played to a scoreless draw in the last regular season match of the 2015 (a match that was rescheduled after drainage issues at Orange County’s field). As a result of the draw, Orange County won the conference with 47 points and forced Republic FC into a lower seeding for the 2015 Playoffs, as they finished fourth with 46 points. Republic FC then fell LA Galaxy II 0-1 in the first round of last year’s playoffs.
Former Republic FC defender Ivan Mirković, who was transferred to the Blues on Apr. 1l, eads Orange County on the pitch. Mirković has started all four of the previous matches against Republic FC this season, playing a combined 350 minutes. He finished the regular season second for the Blues in minutes (2,175) and cautions (7) and led the team in fouls (64).
Should Republic FC win against the Blues on Saturday, they will face the winner of Swope Park Rangers vs LA Galaxy II in the Western Conference semifinals.
This is Republic FC’s third consecutive playoff appearance and gives the club an opportunity to claim their second USL Championship in three seasons. The club finished second in their division in 2014 and fourth in 2015.
Tickets to Republic FC vs Orange County Blues FC start at $22 at Ticketmaster.com. The quarterfinal match will also be streamed live at www.sacrepublicfc.com/matchday and the USL YouTube page.
