Republic FC will open the upcoming 2020 USL Championship regular season schedule at home on March 7 against FC Tulsa, but there are plenty of enticing away games for supporters to keep tabs on.
The first batch of matches we previewed included a trip to Eric Wynalda’s Las Vegas Lights FC followed by a Saturday showdown against bitter rivals LA Galaxy II. The Indomitable Club has to battle Austin Bold FC in Texas then travel to Tacoma Defiance on only four days of rest. Come mid-May, an away game against Portland Timbers 2 is immediately followed by a heavyweight bout against Phoenix Rising FC less than one week later.
Part one previewed some serious away fixtures and now it’s time to see what the second half of the 2020 regular season awaits Mark Briggs’ men away from home…

Away Against the Champions
During a busy part of the summer season, Republic FC has a trio of matches from June 20 to June 27. The middle match that’s sandwiched between two tricky home games is a trip to the 2019 Championship Trophy winners and likely a formidable contender in 2020, Real Monarchs SLC.

Republic FC opened the 2019 regular season at home against Real Monarchs SLC with a 1-1 draw, but the titleholders were red hot when the two Western Conference clubs met for the second fixture in Utah at the tail-end of last season. Monarchs finished the regular season with only one loss in their last eight games including a run that was headlined by upsetting record-setting Phoenix Rising FC. And not only did they do it once, but Monarchs stunned Phoenix again in Arizona just a few weeks later during postseason play. This is a huge test in the middle of the season to see how Republic FC stacks up in against another club that can legitimately compete for silverware in 2020.
Two Texas Trips in a Week
On Saturday, July 25, Republic FC gets its second shot at redemption this season against the team that brought an unfortunate end to the 2019 campaign, El Paso Locomotive FC. The club from the Lone Star State was the only team last year to beat the boys in Old Glory Red three separate times. El Paso is where it all ended last year in the Western Conference Semifinals, and the Indomitable Club won’t forget that when they look to come home with all three points and a first-ever win against the Texan team this time around.

Following the game against Locomotive FC, Republic FC quickly return home for a midweek matchup against Tacoma Defiance on Wednesday, July 29, before the boys in Old Glory Red travel back to Texas just days later for a Saturday, Aug 1 contest against San Antonio FC. Republic FC escaped San Antonio with a 3-2 win last year but Mark Briggs’ men have to stay focused on the back-end of a week-long three-game stretch. By the time SRFC returns to Sacramento, the team will have accumulated almost 4,900 air miles in one week of travel.

First-Ever Trip to San Diego
Former U.S. Men’s National Team legend Landon Donovan is the head coach of expansion-side San Diego Loyal SC and the boys in Old Glory Red will have their first-ever away match against Loyal on Saturday, Aug 15. Donovan’s Loyal visit Sacramento on Saturday, May 2, making this match the second-ever meeting between the two California clubs. Former Republic FC defender Emrah Klimenta joined Loyal SC from Reno 1868 FC in December.
Three Away Games in Two Weeks
Republic FC has a late-August gauntlet of games that include three of four matches away from home over a two-week span. It all starts on Sunday, Aug. 30 in Albuquerque against New Mexico United, a club that will be hungry to avenge Republic FC’s 2-1 win in the play-in round of the 2019 Western Conference playoffs that ended United’s postseason dreams.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, the boys in Old Glory Red have a second-straight game away from home when the team travels to Orange County SC to take on former Republic FC striker Thomas Enevoldsen. The Southern Californian club finished the 2019 regular season in fifth place in the Western Conference and solidified their spot avoiding the play-in game with a 3-2 win in SoCal over SRFC last fall. Republic FC is 3-3-3 in all-time series away from home against OCSC and will look to regain control of the all-time road record.

The Indomitable Club head back to Sacramento for a Wednesday night game against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC before returning to the road for a Sunday showdown with OKC Energy FC on Sept. 13. In the all-time series against OKC, the home team historically dominates the matchup. On the road, Republic FC is 1-4-2 against Energy FC but the all-time series is deadlocked at 5-5-2.

Regional Rival is Final Road Test
Republic FC finish the regular season at home against 2019 Supporters’ Shield winners Phoenix Rising FC but before the final bout, the boys in Old Glory Red have an I-80 Derby clash with rivals Reno 1868 FC on the other side of the state line. The club from Nevada needs to wait almost a full year for a shot at avenging the late-October loss from last season in the Western Conference Quarterfinals that saw the Indomitable Club upset 1868 FC in Reno, 3-1, and advance to the conference semis.
