Tonight, the Indomitable Club return home to Sacramento for Republic FC’s first home fixture of the 2021 USL Championship regular season.
The match against Las Vegas Lights FC is the second game of the young campaign for Mark Briggs’ men who opened the season with a 1-0 win over LA Galaxy II in southern California on April 30.
But the attention is now fully focused on trying to make it two wins from two matches to kickoff 2021.

On the message he sent to the team during halftime of the LA win…
“It was an interesting locker room, let’s just put it that way. I wasn’t in the best of moods. I wasn’t happy with the first half and I let the players know. Then we adjusted certain things and I thought they reacted very well. I thought in the second half we could have scored a few more goals and we were much the better team, which was pleasing to see.”

Overall thoughts on the match ahead…
“For me, it’s exciting to be back playing here [at Heart Health Park] in front of our fans and playing when there’s three points on the line. We played a friendly here and it was loud, and it was great but now it’s real and now it’s for points. We’re excited to play at home, we’re excited to play in front of our fans, and we’re excited to represent this city – and hopefully represent it well by getting a win.”

Overall thoughts on the week of preparation…
“It was a great week of work. We saw film on Vegas, we trained hard. It was great to get the three points against LA in our first game and excited to have the fans back [on Wednesday] in the stadium with us.”

Overall thoughts on if the team was satisfied with the performance against LA…
“We know that we didn’t play our best game, but we got the best out of it that we could. We got the three points and that’s what mattered.”

On the message Head Coach Mark Briggs has been sending to the squad this week…
“We have to come out on the right foot. Step up from what we did in the last game, and I feel like we’re ready for it.”

On if there’s a weight lifted off his shoulders having scored his first SRFC goal…
“There’s definitely something unsaid there, it can tax on you, especially through the first few games of the season if you’re not getting goals early. To get that first one out of the way is big. I don’t think about it too much, it’s my job to score goals. I’m going to keep doing that, keep providing and looking forward to putting some in the net.”
