Republic FC – The Latest
Sacramento bounced back in a big way following their tough defeat in San Diego, putting down FC Tulsa behind a first-half penalty from Douglas Martinez and a Duke Lacroix game-winner. Martinez was awarded Team of the Week Honors for his efforts in the contest, which also saw him tally two shots and the assist on Lacroix’s score. The victory gives Republic FC a boost going into the club’s second home match in as many weeks.
Through three matches to open the season, Sacramento has seen contributions come from all over. Before netting the winner, Lacroix entered in the 69th minute for Ferrety Sousa, who finished with 85% passing accuracy and second on the club in clearances. Luther Archimede and Zeiko Lewis have yet to break through on the score sheet, but each have made a tremendous impact on the club’s attack in each of the last two contests by leading great second half attacking efforts.
Opponent Report
Monterey comes in on a tremendous high after claiming the first win in their club’s history, and doing so against another regional rival in Oakland Roots SC. A brace from Chase Boone got the club on the board early and pulled them back even in the second half, and earned the forward Team of the Week Honors. Hugh Roberts netted the game winner in the 90th minute and also nabbed a Team of the Week nod.
Prior to Week 3, however, things had been difficult to open the season. Monterey Bay had a tough draw with Phoenix in Week 1, conceding four goals in the first half, and they posted just one shot in the second half of their Week 2 loss to Colorado Springs. They’ve had some trouble building out of the back in all three of their contests, surrendering possession in their own defensive third 20 times.
Head to Head
Saturday will be the first official meeting between the two clubs. However, Sacramento did defeat Monterey Bay on March 5 when the two squads met in a preseason friendly at Heart Health Park. The two clubs will line up to meet two more times this season in Seaside on June 25 and August 13.
