Republic FC – The Latest
Sacramento is flying high after advancing to the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 for the third time in club history. The Boys in Old Glory Red showcased their strength by taking down Phoenix for the first time since 2018, earning a clean sheet along the way. Patience in the attacking third resulted in two set-piece scores to take the win.
After a tough stretch of games, Sacramento will likely be back at full strength on Wednesday. Their contest with Phoenix marked the end of a demanding stretch with seven matches since April 16. Now with ample time to recoverand some key pieces back from injury, Mark Briggs should have as close to a full arsenal as he’s had all season at his disposal to claim three points over the Texas club.
Opponent Report
Locomotive FC’s season opened with a defeat at Heart Health Park, eventually dropping their first five contests of the season including a U.S. Open Cup Second Round match. Since, however, the club has gotten back on track, climbing to within a point of the playoff line. Their early defensive troubles that saw them concede 13 times in their first four games have since passed, and they’ve netted multiple scores in three of their last four contests – much of that offensive production from the feet of Luis Solignac, who has netted six goals in five matches since April 23.
The club will be looking to rebound from a tough result in Pittsburgh Saturday that saw them fall 1-0. Down entering stoppage time, the club drew a penalty late; but with Solignac at the spot Pittsburgh keeper Kevin Silva capped off a stellar night by guessing right, keeping his club ahead.
Head to Head
The all-time fixture between Sacramento and El Paso favors the hosts of Wednesday’s contest, as Republic FC has never won at Southwest University Park in three trips. Locomotive FC holds the all-time scoring advantage, netting 11 in five contests to Sacramento’s five.
