What’s the latest on the team?
Republic FC (12-11-4, 40 pts) leaped up to fourth place in the Western Conference standings following Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Austin Bold FC in the Lone Star State.
Simon Elliott’s men took an early advantage through Thomas Enevoldsen who netted his fifth goal since joining the club last month. Drew Skundrich picked out Cameron Iwasa at the top of the box who spotted Enevoldsen surging towards the goal. The Danish striker buried his shot with his first touch, his fifth with the Indomitable Club. The assist was Iwasa’s 16th of his Republic FC career and tied him with Danny Barrera as the club’s all-time assists leader in league play. The boys in Old Glory Red doubled their lead eight minutes later when Dariusz Formella scored his first career goal with the club in his second career start. Austin managed to cut the deficit in half in the 33rd minute but SRFC held on to withstand a Bold FC barrage of 24 shots and claim all three points.
The win moved SRFC into the top four of the Western Conference and if the team can hang onto fourth place or better, Sacramento will host a playoff game come late-October.

What about the other guys?
Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (7-13-7, 28 pts) haven’t been the most consistent team this year, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been a dangerous one. Offensively, RGVFC creates plenty of opportunities but the finishing touch seems to be lacking at times. However, when it’s firing on all cylinders, it’s a potent attack. Seven times this season has RGVFC scored three goals or more in a match with four of which occurring on the road. The club from the Lone Star State also happens to be eighth in the USL in total shots with 375.
Toros are a very disciplined group—they’ve conceded the least amount of fouls of all teams in the league with 282. The Texan club is also one of only five teams (Sacramento, Pittsburgh, Bethlehem and Orange County) in the USL Championship that have three different goalkeepers who have each registered a clean sheet this season.
The last match for Rio Grande Valley was a 1-0 home loss to Tulsa Roughnecks on Saturday. Since RGVFC beat Sacramento in late-July, Toros have won just one game in their last seven matches.

Head-to-Head
When the Indomitable Club and Rio Grande Valley FC Toros clash, it’s routinely a very close encounter. In fact, all the matches between these two Western Conference foes that hasn’t resulted in a draw, with the exception of one, has been decided by just a single goal.
The last time these two clubs clashed, Republic FC was on the losing end of a 2-1 heartbreaker in mid-July. After Toros took an early lead, the boys in Old Glory Red thought a point was possible when an Isidro Martinez own goal leveled the score in the 85th minute. However, a goal in the 90th minute from Kyle Adams was ultimately the difference as RGVFC took the match and all three league points.
- Overall: 4-1-3 (GF: 16; GA: 10)
- Home: 3-0-1
- Away: 1-1-2
